Ever since I was a small child, I had always looked up to the sky at night with a fascination with space. As I grew older and learned so much more about the core fundamentals of STEM, I realized that I wanted to have a hand in the push to explore the galaxy.
Currently, I am an intern at NASA Ames Research Center developing and prototyping a system of wireless sensing for a future off-world habitat. But while at Berkeley, I am an undergraduate researcher studying Urban Air Mobility, member of the inaugural class of Aerospace Engineers, a Corporate VP of Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES), and above all else a NERD!
When not in the lab, you'll be sure to find me exploring new places with friends or playing volleyball with old teammates.
“I attribute CalNERDS to many of my successes today. Without CalNERDS, I don't think I would have had such a smooth transition into Berkeley and the amazing support group that I know I can always go to. The support, guidance, and care from Diana, Chris, and everyone at CalNERDS have been invaluable to my journey so far and were crucial in making my dreams into a reality.
Through the NERDS Summer research I have been able to learn so many hard and soft skills and grow not only as a researcher, but a person as well. Through NERDS, I have gotten practical experience in a laboratory and has helped me make lifelong connections in the space-technologies field! Without NERDS, I don't know if my dreams of one day becoming a Professor would have ever been possible, but now I know that they are.”-Jordan Kam
