UC Berkeley Certificate Programs
Interested in adding a few classes to meet unit requirements? Consider earning a certificate! UC Berkeley offers a range of certificates from over seven departments.
Berkeley’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship website highlights many certificate programs. They span design, entrepreneurship, film and media, community health, and more. Certificates are useful for demonstrating interest in their respective fields. Eligibility and application deadlines vary.
Most certificates consist of a sequence of courses that can be taken during the school year as well as a Field Work or Research component. These are hands-on experiences to gain insight in industries of interest and get credit for it. Some programs offer a structured project or research opportunity. For example, the Asian American Community Health Certificate requires ASAMST 197 (Fall & Spring) /199 (Fall), a 2-unit field study opportunity where students interact with and engage in a project hosted by a Bay Area community health organization like the San Francisco Chinese Hospital. Additionally, the Sutardja Center’s Certificate in Entrepreneurship & Technology offers credit toward their certificate after completion of an internship at a startup.
