Upward Bound (UB)

Upward Bound (UB) is a federally funded TRIO educational program for high school students who are first-generation to college and income-eligible (as defined by federal income guidelines). The Upward Bound program has an annual budget of $850K to serve 169 students in the Oakland and West Contra Costa Unified School Districts. UB provides free services and activities on a year-round basis to motivate and prepare students for success in education beyond high school. Students accepted into the program are expected to remain there until high school graduation and commit seriously to their academic education.  Parents/guardians are also expected to make a commitment by attending meetings and ensuring that students meet their program responsibilities.
