Opto Camp

Many students don’t realize that UC Berkeley has its own school of optometry. Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science offers two programs: a PhD program and a Doctor of Optometry program. Optometry is a great field that is often overlooked. Optometrists work with patients to diagnose and treat eye and vision problems. Optometrists have the flexibility to work in hospitals and clinics, teaching institutions, or the ophthalmic industry.

A great resource offered by the school of Optometry for students interested in the field is Opto-Camp. Opto-Camp is a free, virtual program hosted each summer. The program allows students to learn about the profession and the steps needed to become an optometrist. In order to be eligible for the program, students must be interested in optometry and be currently enrolled in or have already graduated from an undergraduate institution. The school of optometry is committed to diversity and highly encourages students from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. Students who are interested in learning more about Opto-Camp and the application requirements can do so here
